Where does the maintenance of a heat exchanger take place?

Author: by Alfa Grade Kft.

Maintenance of heat exchangers is essential to ensure that the equipment operates safely and efficiently over the long term. In an industrial environment, a rapid response is particularly important, as every hour lost can mean lost production. But where does the maintenance process itself take place and what are the options available to the customer?

On-site maintenance as the fastest and most common solution

In most cases, the maintenance of heat exchangers directly on the spot. This ensures the minimum downtime, as there is no need for transport or moving, and work can start immediately, adapted to the circumstances. It is important to highlight the availability of water and electricity, as well as the large space requirements, which should ideally be available in the immediate vicinity of the heat exchanger.
Our experts arrive with all the necessary tools and equipment, so dismantling, cleaning, inspection and assembly can be carried out on site. If required, the maintenance will end with a pressure test, which will be recorded by our colleagues on site.

In the case of on-site maintenance, the process is fully adapted to the specific equipment and environment. The technicians take into account the plant's operation, the accessibility of the unit and any safety requirements, to ensure that the work is carried out quickly and without accidents.

It is important to note the proper preparation of the maintenance procedure, which includes shutting down the system, disconnecting and draining the heat exchanger. I consider it important to emphasise this because the customer is the one who is most familiar with the operation of his own system and its possible faults and weaknesses, so it is in the interests of both parties that he should carry out this task.

Maintenance in our workshop, if circumstances warrant

There are situations when it is more appropriate to deliver the heat exchanger to our workshop in Dunaújváros. This can be for example:

- if it requires special cleaning procedures, e.g. long soaking in chemicals

- if a longer, more thorough assessment is needed,

- or if the site environment is not suitable for safe working,

- production is highly disrupted by maintenance activities.

The equipment can be delivered to our premises by the client, but we can also take care of the delivery and pick-up, keeping the whole process under one roof.

Maintenance in the workshop offers a number of benefits that in some cases make work more efficient and thorough. In such an environment, it is possible to use special equipment and technologies that are not or only to a limited extent available on-site. Heat exchanger components can then be subjected to more detailed inspection, including precise checks on the condition of plates, tubes and gaskets.

In addition, the workshop offers the possibility to carry out the necessary repairs and part replacements quickly and professionally. If worn or damaged parts are found during maintenance, their replacement or replacement can be started immediately. At the end of the process, equipment testing, such as pressure testing, is also carried out in the workshop.

All in all, on-site maintenance is ideal for all cases where quick maintenance is required and no special procedures are necessary. In-shop maintenance is the right choice when the aim is not only to quickly troubleshoot the problem, but also to fully inspect, clean and refurbish the equipment.
